A stranger comes to work at widow Halla's farm. Halla and the stranger fall in love, but when he is revealed as Eyvind, an escaped thief forced into crime by his family's starvation, they flee and become two of the many outlaws of Iceland's mountains.

خلاصه داستان : یک مرد الکلی، بدرفتار و بی‌عرضه، از طریق افسانه‌ای که می‌گوید آخرین کسی که در شب سال نو قبل از دوازده ضربه ساعت بمیرد تا افسار ارابه مرگ را به دست بگیرد و خستگی‌ناپذیر برای جمع‌آوری ارواح تازه برای سال آینده تلاش کند، محکوم به فنا است، به خطای خود پی می‌برد.
